Courtney S. Roberts, based in Washington DC, is an entrepreneurial leader in evidence, impact, and learning and strategy and engagement who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. She founded Moonshot Global, LLC, where her thought leadership has been instrumental on some of the most transformational, innovative, and catalytic international development initiatives, including Development Innovation Ventures (DIV), Grand Challenges for Development (GCD), and a number of blended finance and outcomes-based financing initiatives, which have channeled public and private sector investment through a broad range of financing instruments. She has 25+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams to implement projects in 44 countries, including those affected by conflict, in all regions of the world. Her sectoral expertise spans sectoral experience spans agriculture, climate, education, finance, governance, health, and trade and investment. She is a thought leader in the impact measurement and management (IMM) for innovative finance and innovation-led development.
She oversees the firm’s four practices areas: Evidence and Impact, Learning, Strategy and Engagement, and Sustainable Investment Advisory. She is the architect of Moonshot’s cutting-edge flagship products: portfolio impact strategy, impact performance verification, and digital stakeholder feedback. She also co-developed Moonshot’s partnership and influence measurement models, which have been applied by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia to make investment decisions.
Prior to founding Moonshot Global, Courtney was Chief of Party for a USAID project supporting Global Development Alliances, the flagship private sector engagement project, and worked in private sector development for 10 years at the World Bank Group—at International Finance Corporation and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency—in private sector development and digital transformation. She also was emerging markets management associate at Citibank’s Global Corporate and Investment Bank. For nine years she was an Adjunct Professor at American University’s Graduate School of International Service where she co-developed and taught courses in Adaptive Management and Program Design, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Learning.
