Developing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Plans for the U.S. Global Development Lab

Client: DAI/U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) U.S. Global Development Lab (the Lab).

Problem: As USAID’s innovation hub, the Lab tests new ideas leveraging the promise of science, technology, innovation, and partnership to disrupt traditional development solutions and bring an end to extreme poverty. One of its guiding principles for investing is strong evidence of impact, making a rigorous MEL plans essential for gathering and using hard evidence to develop the most promising ideas and demonstrate results across its portfolio.

Solution: Through DAI, Moonshot Global used its expertise in impact measurement to assist the Lab’s monitoring and evaluation team in designing and delivering workshops to yield finalized and harmonized MEL plans for the Lab’s centers. Moonshot Global’s contributions included:

  • Comparing existing team results frameworks and identifying gaps
  • Harmonizing indicators and drafting evaluation questions
  • Supporting the technology, partnerships, and innovation teams in crafting learning agendas and identifying opportunities for collaboration
